Wed, 28 Oct 2015

Hi all.

OK, it has taken a lot longer that we thought, but the circuits and road closures have all now been sorted. I would like to have given everyone information earlier, but we ended up with a change of venue that may have had people changing travel plans, and I didn’t want a repeat of that.

We were originally hoping to host the event in Brisbane, but we have now secured the whole event on the Gold Coast, only 20km from our iconic Surfers Paradise, and all our Iconic theme parks. We will be based out of the Sports Super Centre at Runaway Bay, which will also have some dormitory style accommodation and meals for all competitors, supporters and volunteers. It is going to be winter here, so means you’ll be warmer at night. Yes it’ll be winter, but our daytime temps will still get to 20 plus degrees, and for you really keen people you can still even swim at the beaches.  Details of how to book the dormitory accommodation will follow soon.

We suggest that everyone flies into Brisbane airport, about 80km north of the location, and if you are travelling in as a team, then we may be able to sort out some cheaper shuttle transportation for you and your footbikes.

The suggested itinerary at this stage is
Thursday 7th July 2016 – 3pm Registration at the Sports Super Centre,
6pm - welcome and Aussie BBQ dinner
Friday 8th July – on an athletic track at the Sports Super Centre
9am sprint qualifying
12pm Kids and open fun racing
1pm Finals series racing
5pm prizegiving
6pm Dinner at the Sports Super Centre
Saturday 9th July -  Venue: Luke Harrop Criterium circuit 10 mins walk from the Sports Super Centre
10am Kids and Cadet racing on a Criterium circuit ranging from 1.2km to 4.8km depending on age.
11am – Criterium racing Womens 10km
12pm – Criterium racing Mens 10km
1.30pm Open fun races
2.40pm Womans Relay 20 min plus 1 lap 1.2km per lap
3.10pm Mens relay -20 mins plus 1 lap 1.2km laps
4.30pm prizegiving back at Sports Super Centre
Sunday 10th July – Finish area - Gaven Central Industrial area on Newheath Drive Helensvale
6.30am - Kids racing 1 lap of 3km circuit
7am – Womans Distance race – 42.195km marathon – Boys and Girls Cadets 20km
9.45am Mens marathon – 42.195km marathon
2pm prizegiving back at the Sports Super Centre
3pm Inter country beach Volleyball competition
6pm – Dinner and closing ceremony - then farewell party

Our website is under construction at the moment, and we intend to have registrations open from January 2016. In the meantime, it would be great to have an indication of the approximate numbers you are expecting from your country.

Seeing as this is going to be a big trip, then we suggest staying for a couple of weeks, so that you can check out our beautiful country, and of course check out the theme parks, and other activities.  Also Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo is about 160km from the Gold Coast, and we intend organising a special deal for competitors, so don’t book that yet.  More details to follow.

Please pass this on to all your team members, and anyone else you can think of.  If you have any questions then please contact me.

FWC2016 Accommodation - July 7th to 10th July 2016 - Gold Coast of Australia

Hi fellow kickers.

Can I suggest that your accommodation be booked this week.  We have just found out that there are another 3 large events being held on the Gold Coast that same weekend, so the best priced accommodation is going to book out fairly soon. We have been able to get some movement on pricing at 1 of the motels close, see the details below.

What I suggest everyone does is to book their accommodation at any one of the Motels, Hotels, Apartments or resorts, within easy travelling distance of the “Sports Super Centre” at “Runaway Bay”. That way you can stay in the same place for your stay on the Gold Coast. Some of the closest places are listed below, but definitely cheaper if you organise it as a group, because you can share the costs of booking a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment, and if you book a whole group in and are booking several apartments, then you can ask for a discount.

If you are travelling on your own or with only 1 other person, then cost wise the Sports Super Centre is great option, but their accommodation is only available from the 4th to the 7th of July, so you would need to move to other accommodation on the Saturday.  Talk to us about booking the Super Sports Centre, but the other accommodation you will need to book directly.

So, some of the other options are

BUDGET –

Aquarius Backpackers, 42 Queen Street, Gold Coast (Southport) about 17 mins drive to Sports Super Centre (SSC).  No Change
They have dorm rooms from about $35 per night or $42.50 for a double.

Surfers Paradise YHA - 70 Seaworld Drive. 21 mins drive to SSC. No Change
It sleeps 100 people total.  Twins or double from $70pn or a dorm bed from about $26.

MIDRANGE –

Limassol Motel (3.5 stars) +61 7 5591 6766 – No change
Labrador - only 8 mins drive to Sports Super Centre.
Has rooms that can accommodate up to 5 people from about $169 per night. – 5th person would be on a foldout bed

Runaway Bay Motor Inn - 8 mins drive to SSC – Changed pricing. Gave us a good offer straight away, essentially 10% off rack rate, slightly less for quad share. Ring these guys to discuss your options, and mention “Footbike World Championships”.
429 Oxley Drive, Runaway Bay QLD 4216
2 person standard double from about $145 now $130.50, Family rooms Queen plus 2 singles in 1 room $195 for 4, now $180 for 4, or $153 for 3.

Harbourside Resort, 8km to SSC – No change
132 Marine Parade
Southport Gold Coast, QLD 4215 Australia

Treasure Island Holiday resort – 4km to the SSC. No change but may look at group booking
They have Pandanus villas that can accommodate 6-8people and works out at $50-60 per person per night.
They also have plenty of Family activities available, worth a look

Pelican Cove Resort - 5km to SSC – change – said they were keen to discount group bookings, mention Footbike World Championships
Up to 6 people for $165 per night – minimum 5 nights

Windsurfer Resort – 6km to SSC – change – said they were keen to discount group bookings, mention Footbike World Championships
Broadwater Accommodation
452 Marine Parade Biggera Waters
Queensland 4216 Australia
4 people 5 nights for $475 total

There are a lot of other apartments and hotels and resorts available but you may find they are a little more expensive.

Please look at these and decide which ones you like the best.

Please also pass this on to everyone in your database, so that they can check it out as well.
